Flash Memoir: How to Write About Your Life
How do we weave autobiographical details or use memories to write memoir? The answer lies in still life. Inspired by a visit to the National Gallery, our featured speaker was impressed by how much of life resembles a still life—seemingly simple, ordinary, yet deceivingly complex: a masterpiece. Jane Hertenstein is the author of numerous short stories and flash. Her work has been included in Hunger Mountain, Word Riot, Flashquake, and Rosebud as well as earning an Honorable Mention in Glimmer Train.
Jane will critique memoir and personal essay manuscripts using examples from the writer's life. 1000 word maximum. All manuscripts should be in Times New Roman 12 pt font, double spaced, 1 inch margins, pages numbered, Your name printed on first page or in header.
Fee $3.00 per page. Usual minimum of $15 dollars is not in effect for this workshop only. Manuscripts should be sent as an attachment to 2012susanlevi@gmail.com and must be received by October 12th.
