Erotic encounter, whether they’re good, bad, or ugly, can be pivotal moment for characters in all genres. But how can we write about these intimate moments without veering into elaborate purple prose, sounding like a medical textbook, or just plain embarrassing ourselves? In this session, we will explore what makes an effective sex scene, when and how to include erotic elements in your writing, and how to craft a sensual rendezvous that will leave both your characters and your readers breathless.

Samantha MacLeod is the author of over a dozen steamy paranormal and fantasy romance titles under two different pen names. Her work has been described as “breathtakingly lyrical stories that breathe new and unexpected life into the old gods and the mortals who cross their paths.” Her short stories and poetry have appeared in a variety of publications, including the Audie Award Finalist audiobook Nevertheless We Persisted. Born and raised in Colorado, Samantha MacLeod has lived in every time zone in the US. She has a bachelor’s degree from Colby College and an M.A. from the University of Chicago; yes, the U. of C. really is where fun comes to die.

Samantha will accept prose manuscripts for critique. She will also judge a Sex Scene Contest of up to five pages. Please see manuscript guidelines on our website for specifics on both.

We offer free student memberships at a discounted rate of $5.00 per session. You must send verification of your student status. Please contact Claudia Katz at ckatz17755@aol.com for details.
